Small Animal Surgery

Elk Meadow Animal Hospital is equipped with a full surgery suite, state-of-the-art anesthesia equipment, and comprehensive anesthesia monitoring. Every surgical patient has a complete physical examination performed before surgery. Pre-anesthetic blood testing is important to reduce the risk of anesthesia and will be discussed with you prior to surgery. Each patient undergoing surgery in our facility has an anesthetic protocol developed specifically from them based on their age, health, and the procedure they are having. This thorough evaluation and individual approach is designed to make anesthesia as safe as possible for our patients.

During surgery your pet will be continually monitored by an anesthetist as well as monitoring equipment. All of our patients receive an intravenous catheter and fluids during surgery to support blood pressure as well as external heat support to maintain their body temperature. Pain management is very important to us, and we strive to make sure that our patients are as comfortable as possible before, during, and after a procedure. Each patient is monitored closely for pain, and all patients will be given medications to control pain.

We are equipped to perform a variety of surgical procedures. These include elective procedures such as spays and neuters as well as more advanced orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. We are affiliated with board certified surgeons and can arrange for one to be called in for advanced procedures if needed.
